Assigned by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, arrived on Wednesday in Accra, Ghana, to participate in the 45th Executive Council of the African Union (AU), slated for 18-19 July.

Following the ministerial meeting, the 6th Coordination Summit between the AU, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Regional Mechanisms will be held on 21 July.

The ministerial session’s agenda includes examining multiple financial and administrative matters related to the AU’s internal management, issues of partnerships established by the continental organization with various international actors, its G20 membership, furthering the activation of common African action mechanisms and preparing the upcoming continental and international events.

On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, Attaf will hold bilateral meetings with several of his African counterparts.

The minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions Saturday in Accra, Ghana, with the chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Moussa Faki Mahamat. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange views and analysis on crises and conflicts, and threats to peace and security in Africa. The two sides discussed "the main political and economic challenges and development issues in the continent. They also examined the forthcoming events relating to the African Union as well as those between the AU and its international partners.


AU Executive Council: Mr Attaf holds bilateral meetings


The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held on Friday in Accra, Ghana, bilateral meetings with several of his African counterparts, on the sidelines of his participation in the 45th Executive Council of the African Union (AU). The talks between Attaf and his South African counterpart, Ronald Lamola, provided an opportunity for the two parties to examine the AU Executive Council’s key agenda items and involved in-depth discussions on major regional and international issues of common interest. They also reviewed the privileged relations between the two countries and explored ways to further enhance them in anticipation of upcoming high-level bilateral events. Attaf and his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, exchanged views and analyses on the developments in the Sahel-Saharan region, before examining several bilateral issues aimed at boosting relations between their two countries. In his meeting with Ethiopian counterpart Taye Atske Selassie, Attaf explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and addressed current regional and continental issues. Attaf and Sierra Leone’s Timothy Musa Kabba reviewed bilateral coordination at the Security Council level as part of the A3 Group (the three African Security Council members). Attaf’s meeting with Zimbabwean counterpart Frederick Shava focused on ways to bolster bilateral cooperation ahead of the joint commission meeting. They also exchanged views on a number of current African issues. The talks between Attaf and his Republic of Congo counterpart, Jean-Claude Gakosso, explored ways to maintain close bilateral coordination ahead of upcoming AU events. With his counterpart from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, Attaf reviewed the developments in the two countries’ regions and discussed the prospects for boosting bilateral cooperation.

Mr Attaf holds talks in Accra with Egyptian, Namibian counterparts


The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held talks Saturday in Accra (Ghana) with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates of the brotherly Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty, and the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the brotherly Republic of Namibia, Peya Mushelenga. Attaf and his Egyptian counterpart discussed issues related to the upcoming African Union (AU) events and ways to promote the privileged relations between the two countries by activating all mechanisms to enhance political consultation and deepen economic partnerships, in line with the guidelines of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his brother, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, aimed at giving Algerian-Egyptian relations a strategic dimension. With his Namibian counterpart, Attaf exchanged views on several African issues. They agreed to maintain bilateral coordination in favor of just causes at the continental and international levels, and to make more efforts to promote bilateral relations.

 

The Minister Attaf, President of PAP holds talks

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held talks on Sunday in Accra, Ghana, with the President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), Fortune Charumbira. The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to review PAP’s efforts and activities to bolster the common African action, along with examining ways to enable this key institution to fully carry out its role.

 

Mr Attaf meets with AMU’s Secretary General in Accra

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions on Sunday in Accra (Ghana) with the Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), Tarek Ben Salem. On this occasion, Minister Ahmed Attaf reiterated his congratulations to Tarek Ben Salem on his appointment as Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union. He also commended Tunisia, a brotherly country, for its wise decision in nominating for this position a seasoned diplomat known for his attachment and commitment to Maghreb regional issues. Mr Attaf assured Tarek Ben Salem that Algeria will back him in carrying out his duties to serve the aspirations and interests of the Maghreb peoples.

 

Mr Attaf holds talks with CEO of AUDA-NEPAD

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held bilateral talks on Sunday in Accra (Ghana) with the Chief Executive Officer of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Nardos Bekele-Thomas. The meeting focused on examining the key development issues in Africa, and ways to bolster Algeria’s membership and contribution, being one of the five founding countries of AUDA-NEPAD, so as to back collective efforts aimed at boosting integration and promoting development in Africa.

 

Mr Attaf, Equatoguinean counterpart hold talks

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held bilateral talks on Sunday in Accra, Ghana, with his Equatoguinean counterpart, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue, which revolved around marshalling international support in favour of the common African stance on the Security Council reform. The meeting allowed both parties to discuss the means to mobilize international support in favour of the common African stance on the UN Security Council reform, ahead of participating in the upcoming high-level debate at the Security Council next month, and as part of implementing the conclusions of the Summit of the African Union Committee of Ten (C-10) Heads of State and Government that was held in Equatorial Guinea in November 2023 and the Ministerial Meeting in Algeria in January 2024.
